The teacher allegedly helped her son recruit runaways at local high schools by offering them a place to stay at a motel.
KLEIN, Texas – A Klein Independent School District cosmetology teacher and her son have been arrested for sex trafficking and compelling prostitution of juveniles.
Authorities say Kedria Grigsby, 42, and her son, Roger Magee, 21, recruited troubled female students from local high schools for sex work, reports Fox26Houston. Grigsby allegedly helped her son, who was arrested in November.
There are at least three victims, ages 15, 16, and 17, and authorities say there are probably more. The victims are students who were reported as runaways, reports KHOU. Police say the teacher recruited the victims by offering them a place to stay in a local motel. At least one of the rooms Grigsby paid for was used for prostitution. She is also accused of transporting the teens.
Investigators found text messages between Grigsby and Magee about payments and prostitution fees.
Grigsby Charged with 6 Counts of Prostitution and Sex Trafficking
She faces six counts for prostitution and sex trafficking and is out on bond for $750,000. While out on bond, she is not allowed to contact the victims or interact with minors unless she is supervised.
Grigsby was hired in 2019 to work as a cosmetology teacher at Klein Cain High School. School officials conducted a background check of her, which she passed. Grigsby was fired from her position after her arrest.
According to an analysis of 2021 data from the National Human Trafficking Hotline, students experiencing unstable housing and homelessness often fall victim to human trafficking.
