February to June is data mining season in schools across Canada. Through lengthy social science questionnaires and use of illegal “passive consent” instead of written parental consent, schools collude with behavioural researchers to mine the private data of children and their families. In BC, the World Bank affiliated UBC-based Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP) & Population Data BC take the privacy violation further through “data linkage”: connecting all the various data sets held by governments. They mine, store, and sell the private “person specific” data “from pre-conception” of all 5.4 million BC residents. With suggestions for ACTION.
