Borden Dairy Co. will close its Alabama plant by Sept. 30 because “it could no longer support continued production,” according to a report.

The Dothan facility produces milk for Dallas-based Borden Dairy, one of the company’s 14 factories.

“While the decision was difficult, the company has determined that it could no longer support continued production at those locations,” Borden Dairy said in a statement to WTVY in Dothan.

A Borden Dairy spokeswoman could not immediately be reached by AL.com to confirm the report.

The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2020.

Employees at the Dothan plant have been notified, the company said, adding that Borden Dairy would offer “notification pay, job transition support, and the opportunity to apply for roles at other locations.”

Borden Dairy’s plant in Hattiesburg, Miss., is also set for closure by Sept. 30.

“After a thorough review, we recently informed employees and customers that New Dairy Alabama LLC, dba Borden Dairy will close its Dothan, AL and Hattiesburg, MS milk production facilities by no later than September 30, 2022, and will no longer produce in these states,” according to the company’s statement.
