What more evidence does the public need that the criminal justice system is a crapshoot beyond all belief?
A wide array of almost draconian judge’s orders, including banishment from the internet for life? Not in the least.
And now, the trans-identifying woman, all 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds of her, has been re-arrested one day after being released from jail and back onto the streets of Edmonton. They had been released Monday.
And everyone from the cops to Mrs. Kowalski is aghast. That taste of freedom is over. And almost everyone could see it coming.
After Waskahat was released from custody on Monday she quickly vanished and failed to report to her parole officer and an arrest warrant was issued.
Cops tracked Waskahat to a west Edmonton hotel after being tipped off and they quickly arrested her.
Inside the room was a baby crib, diapers, scores of alleged pornographic drawings and a laptop.
What more evidence does the public need that the criminal justice system is a crapshoot beyond all belief? Exhibit A: Laverne Waskahat.
Cops were so concerned they released a photo, description and myriad other details warning parents to go ahead and be overprotective.
In our heroine’s last go-round with the justice system in May 2020, she pleaded guilty in Edmonton’s Court of Queen’s Bench to a slew of crimes that included failure to comply with a lifetime order prohibiting her from using the internet, breaching a court condition prohibiting her from possessing or viewing any images of children, and breaching a condition requiring her to not own, use or possess a computer.
But as we used to say, rules are meant to be broken, right?
Some of the twisted child pornography on her secret phone and laptop allegedly involved children in diapers. They were under the age of three.
Cops – God bless ’em – issued a similar warning in August 2019, saying there were “reasonable grounds to believe she is of significant harm to the community and will commit another sexual offence against a child under the age of 16.”
Did anyone in the system happen to notice any of this?
Police also noted that Waskahat was known to “offend against children” she was caring for and add to her child porn collection by taking snapshots of infants in public.
Charges against Waskahat were later updated to use male pronouns. She is also known to change her appearance often.
Her last taste of freedom ended when she was pinched at a Tim Hortons by detectives who noticed her playing chess on a cellphone. Cops later found a laptop and a second cellphone that was chock-a-block with child pornography.
In that particular entanglement, her lawyers, of course, asked for a Gladue report to determine if the child pornographer’s Indigenous background had a hand in her circumstances. It is unlikely any First Nation would want Waskahat within 1,000 miles of their kids.
Cops described Waskahat as a “violent sexual offender” and warned she may attempt to ingratiate herself in the life of someone with young children. She likes to hang out at malls.
Laverne Waskahat, quite simply, will not be denied.
Sean Michael Kriss, 40, of Brazoria County, Texas, also wasn’t going to be denied. Except, in his case, he created a video of himself having sex with an underage girl and shared it on Snapchat.
Cops say they discovered 408 images and two sex videos depicting the minor victim.
Kriss, who was sentenced to 40 years in a U.S. federal prison, probably wishes he had engaged in his own private depravities in Canada.
Laverne Waskahat seems to have returned for yet another sequel.
