BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A new House bill was introduced that includes disclosing important information in regards to donating blood.
In HB822, written by State Rep. Peter Egan, Sr. (R-La), the proposed bill would require that before performing a blood donation or blood transfusion, it should be noted if the donor has received a COVID-19 vaccination or messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccinations in their lifetime.
The recipient would also have the option to request a certain blood type in non-emergency, whether the donor received a vaccination or not.
The Louisiana Department of Health is tasked with creating rules and regulations for the proposed bill.
If the bill was to pass, the bill would go into effect on September 1, 2024.
