HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A former Pearl City High School substitute teacher is heading to federal prison for making child porn.
Alden Bunag, 35, was sentenced Tuesday to more than 17 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty.
Prosecutors said he was working as a middle school teacher from 2017 to 2018 when he taped repeated sexual activity with a 13-year-old student in a classroom and sent it to others.
During his arrest in 2022, investigators found thousands of videos and photos of child pornography in his possession.
Bunag had taught at Ilima Intermediate and Pearl City High School.
He will now have to register as a sex offender and pay $30,000 in restitution to the victims.
